FTTH has doubled its global deployment over the past 18 months, according to joint statistics from the FTTH Asia Pacific, Europe and North America Association. At the FTTH European Annual meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark, the three FTTH associations jointly released the report.
The report says FTTH deployments in 20 economies around the world have exceeded the threshold of 1% user households. There were only 11 in July 2007 and 14 in July 2008.
This growth is mainly due to the accelerated deployment of FTTH in Europe, which has now had 2 million FTTH users across Europe.
South Korea continues to lead the rest of the world with a 44% penetration rate, with Hong Kong, Japan and Taiwan each in the 2nd to fourth place in 28%,27% and 12%.
In the total number of users, Japan continues to lead other regions in the size of 13.2 million users, followed by 6.05 million in the United States and 5.96 million in mainland China.
